What Information We Collect

Information You Give Us Directly

When you contact us through our form or send us an email, we receive whatever you choose to share: your name, your email address, and the content of your message. That’s it. We don’t require an account to read our reviews, we don’t have a membership system, and we don’t ask for any information beyond what’s necessary to respond to your question.

Information Collected Automatically

Like essentially every website on the internet, our hosting provider collects standard server logs — things like IP addresses, browser types, and which pages were requested. We look at aggregated traffic data (which reviews are getting read, where visitors are roughly located) to understand what content is useful to people. We don’t use this data to identify individual visitors, and we don’t combine it with anything else to build profiles.

Cookies & Tracking

We use a minimal number of cookies:

• Affiliate cookies: When you click a link to Amazon or another retailer, they may set a cookie that tracks that click so we earn a commission if you buy something. These cookies are set by the retailer, not by us, and typically last 24 hours (Amazon) or up to 30 days for some other retailers. We never see your purchase details — only that a purchase was made through our link, and the total commission earned, which is aggregated and anonymized.
• Analytics: We may use a privacy-focused analytics tool (like Plausible or Fathom) that doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t collect personal data. If that changes, we’ll update this page.

We don’t use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, social media trackers, or any of the other tracking infrastructure that follows you around the web. There are no ads on this site beyond our own affiliate links, and we don’t work with ad networks.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information you give us for exactly one purpose: to respond to your message. If you email us a question about an apron, we’ll answer it. If you suggest a product for review, we’ll consider it. If you point out a correction, we’ll investigate and fix it.

We don’t use your contact information for marketing. We don’t send newsletters. We don’t have a mailing list. If we ever start one, we’ll ask permission explicitly rather than adding you because you emailed us once.

Who We Share Your Information With

Short answer: almost nobody. Here’s the complete list:

• Our hosting provider: Like all websites, our hosting provider has access to server logs. This is standard and unavoidable if you want a website to exist on the internet.
• Email provider: When you email us, your message lives on our email provider’s servers. We use a standard email service, not a custom setup.
• Affiliate networks: When you click an affiliate link, the retailer (Amazon, etc.) sees that you arrived from our site. This is how affiliate programs work. We don’t send them any additional information about you.

We don’t sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with anyone else. Not advertisers, not data brokers, not “partners,” not anyone.

How Long We Keep Your Information

Emails stay in our inbox until we delete them, which happens when we clean out old correspondence — typically every year or two. Server logs are rotated automatically by our hosting provider, usually within 30 to 90 days. We don’t maintain a separate database of visitor information, so there’s nothing to “retain” beyond what our email and hosting providers keep as part of their normal operations.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights regarding your personal data — including the right to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. Since we collect so little, exercising these rights is usually straightforward:

• Want to know what we have? Email us and we’ll tell you — it’s probably just your original message and our reply.
• Want us to delete it? Email us and we’ll delete the thread. Done.
• Want to opt out of cookies? Most affiliate cookies can be blocked by your browser settings or by clearing cookies before shopping. The analytics tools we use don’t rely on cookies in the first place.

Third-Party Links

Our reviews link to products on Amazon and occasionally other retailers. When you leave our site and land on theirs, their privacy policies apply — not ours. We encourage you to read their policies if you’re concerned about how they handle your data, though we link exclusively to reputable retailers with established privacy practices.

Children’s Privacy

This site is written for adults who work in shops with sharp tools and power equipment. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and if we learn we have, we’ll delete it immediately. If you’re a parent and believe your child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we’ll handle it promptly.

Changes To This Policy

If we change how we handle your information — for example, if we ever start a newsletter or add analytics that collect more data — we’ll update this page and note the change clearly at the top. We won’t quietly expand data collection without telling you. Since we don’t have a mailing list, the best way to stay informed is to check this page occasionally if privacy practices matter to you.
